The Only Award Winning Ointment Mill in the Market By now, everyone is aware that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is inspecting compounding pharmacies. The multiple Form 483 inspection reports and warning letters publicly posted on the agency’s website make that very clear. But, did you know that the FDA is also inspecting the suppliers and laboratories that provide IACP members with the necessary materials and services to prepare compounds? This educational program will cover what those inspections entail and how the outcome may directly affect your ability to access Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) and testing support. Presented by: TBD Program type: Knowledge-Based 3:00-4:00 p.m. Affordable Care Act: Examine the Impact of ACA on Reimbursement and Coverage of Medications While media attention was focused on the problems with a website, the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and state exchanges were rapidly changing the health care delivery model. Even though prescription drugs are considered an essential benefit under any ACA plan, what isn’t known is whether or not that mandate also extends to compounded prescription drugs. Will state exchanges have different rules? Will plans within those exchanges have different rules? This workshop is designed to provide IACP members with an overview of the ACA with an emphasis on how the overall prescription benefit is being handled, and the information they need to assist patients in receiving the coverage they expect for customized medicines. Presented by: Rebecca P. Snead, RPh, Executive Vice President & CEO, National Alliance of State Pharmacy Associations (NASPA) Program type: Knowledge-Based 4:00-5:00 p.m. A Prescription for Negligence Attention to malpractice law related to the pharmacy profession is important for pharmacists and pharmacy operations. Common areas of risk and trends in pharmacy malpractice actions will be discussed in this overview session. Various procedural and process concerns during a malpractice action will be summarized. Recent pharmacy malpractice cases will be reviewed to highlight the potential for liability. Presented by: Martin R. Dix, JD, Akerman LLP Program type: Knowledge-Based Lean Startup for Compounding Pharmacies: A Proven Methodology for Pursuing Growth This program is made possible through an unrestricted educational grant-in-aid from PCCA. Attendees will learn the logic behind the framework and the steps needed to implement. Additionally, they will be presented with examples as to how other pharmacies are growing their revenues as a result of the adoption of this methodology. Presented by: Daniel Faintuch, MBA, Lee Silsby Compounding Pharmacy Program type: Knowledge-Based Engaging Patients as Advocates for the Compounding Pharmacy Profession Although everyone in the compounding community has focused upon the impact of the Drug Quality and Security Act, much, much more is occurring at both the state and federal level. Issues like constructive transfer of controlled substances, reimbursement for pharmacist care services, assured coverage of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API)- based compounded medicines, and increasing scrutiny by regulators all mean that the battle to protect our specialty is as great as ever. Looking forward, IACP sees that our greatest advocates aren’t ourselves but our patients. This insightful seminar, conducted by IACP’s Washington D.C.-based advocacy experts, will show you how to capitalize on the passion and commitment of your patients, their families, and your local professional and business community.
