PEVCO Systems International
Healthcare's Pneumatic Tube Delivery System Expert
For nearly 30 years, Pevco™ has provided high-quality, reliable pneumatic tube delivery systems to hospitals and healthcare facilities throughout North America.
We have earned our reputation as the smartest choice in delivery systems by anticipating and satisfying our clients’ needs, from lab personnel to nurses to facility engineers to pharmacists. Our flexible, intelligent products are cost-effective and consistently improve hospitals’ delivery of medications, specimens and supplies.
PRODUCTS
Pevco provides a complete line of delivery system products tailored to the unique requirements of healthcare professionals. We are 100% focused on hospital pneumatic tube delivery solutions. We have decades of practical experience designing systems tailored to each hospital’s requirements. And we are constantly working to build upon our proven approach to the cost-effective, safe, reliable and fast delivery of pharmaceuticals, lab specimens, blood products and patient care supplies.
In addition to Pevco’s expertise in the design and installation of new and expanding systems, our products can also upgrade or replace competing systems - and Pevco delivery systems are not dependent on expensive proprietary parts.
Our products include:
- Pevco CARRIER MANAGEMENT SYSTEM™ - ensures a supply of empty carriers by delivering them to stations that need them, automatically. After a delivery is received, the user simply returns the empty carrier to the system. The system computer determines whether to send the carrier directly to another station or place it in storage units built into the tube system. The system monitors the carrier count at each station and automatically sends empty carriers to stations in need. In addition, any user lacking carriers can request one with the touch of a button and an empty carrier is delivered to the requesting station in seconds. Decrease or eliminate telephone requests for empty carriers and save time - a must for busy labs, pharmacies and emergency rooms.
- Pevco DELIVERY STATIONS - with the touch of a button, Pevco Delivery Stations quickly and safely transport pharmaceuticals, lab specimens, blood products and medical supplies between emergency rooms, labs, nurses’ stations, operating rooms and pharmacies. Easy to use, and reliable too, our delivery stations come in an assortment of designs and sizes to accommodate any hospital environment. And all stations feature advanced, user-friendly Smart Control panels. Whether a hospital needs to add one station to an existing system, or dozens of stations to a new facility, our designers work with hospital architects, facility planners and management to determine the best stations to suit their space, budget and usage requirements. Our station designs include Pevco's: Compact Delivery Station, Standard Delivery Station, Space-Saver Delivery Station, Accusend Delivery Station and Maxi Delivery Station.
- Pevco DIVERTERS & BLOWERS - are designed and built for one purpose - hospital pneumatic tube delivery systems. We understand the demands of hospital operations and have designed our equipment to hold up over years of operation. Our diverters and blowers are built to reduce downtime and make maintenance trouble-free. We use off-the-shelf components, so spare parts are always close at hand - whether shipped from our warehouse in Baltimore or from a hospital’s local industrial supply company.
- Pevco LEAK-RESISTANT CARRIERS - are designed for worry-free transport of all medical materials. Our carriers are made of durable plastic and come with a warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. The patented design safely contains fumes and odors within an airtight body, and the carriers’ leak-resistant seal, steel hinge and latches protect against spills. Our carriers are designed to be durable and easy to maintain. Long-wearing, replaceable gasket seals, Velcro wear bands and low-profile latches ensure that carriers will hold up under high-use conditions. Reducing the risk of leakage also prevents costly and time-consuming clean-up and system downtime. In addition to carriers, Pevco offers a full line of foam inserts to further protect materials in transit. Our foam inserts come precut and shaped to cushion and hold the items placed inside. Pevco Leak-Resistant Carriers can be used in virtually all pneumatic tube delivery systems. Both 4” and 6” models are available
- Pevco SMART CONTROLS™ - not only enable users to send a carrier to any station with the touch of a button, they also monitor all carrier traffic, calculate the fastest path for each transaction, optimize the entire system and provide detailed reporting. Consisting of a workstation with customizable software and control panels and electronics, Pevco Smart Controls ensure a system’s reliability and efficiency. And, Pevco Smart Controls can enhance the operation of poorly functioning competitor systems by replacing underperforming components. Smart Controls are easy to operate and support. Hospital engineering professionals can adjust their preferences, run diagnostics themselves and view every transaction as it occurs.
- Pevco SMART PATH™ - greatly improves the efficiency of both small and large delivery systems, boosting performance by reducing wait times and increasing blower efficiency and delivery speed. Smart Path is available for new systems, existing systems and upgrades to other manufacturers’ systems. With Smart Path™, the delivery system’s tube and diverter configuration allows any blower to handle any transaction from anywhere in the system from start to finish. This change in design and operation eliminates the dependence on a single blower for an individual zone, and effectively eliminates downtime for blower preventative maintenance.
- Pevco TRACKER™ - provides a searchable real-time audit trail for patient-critical pneumatic tube system transactions, including pharmaceuticals, blood products and lab specimens. The Pevco Tracker: Reduces Costly Errors, Provides Instant Access to Data, Delivers Real-Time Status Messages, Relies on Proven Technology and is Easy To Implement and Expand.

Choose Your System
Point-to-Point System:
Two-way dedicated sending & receiving system, designed to transfer carriers with contents between two designated locations. This system is ideal when the job requires information sharing from two different locations without the need to interrupt production for transfer.
Semi-Automatic System:
The Semi-Automatic systems function with a main station as a transfer hub and can be set-up to deliver and receive from multiple remote stations. Remote stations are configured to only send directly to the main station, whereas the designated main station can send to any of the remote stations. These systems are ideal when information is collected from multiple departments and processed at a central department. It is easily expandable for additional locations, and can be easily upgraded to a fully-automatic system.
Fully-Automatic System:
The Fully-Automatic system integrates an entire network of stations to transfer documents, cash, lab samples, medications or small items from all points. In this system, all destinations can send and receive to each of the other stations. This system is typically used when a larger number of interacting stations are needed (usually four or more). The Fully-Automatic system is an affordable option for facilities requiring high volume transfer and is easily expandable at any time. Additionally, this system uses up to 50% less electricity with pneumatically controlled devices as opposed to electric-mechanical devices.

Pneumatic Air Tubes
From Wikipedia 2010
While they are commonly used for small parcels and documents - now most often used as cash carriers at banks, pharmacies, medical institutions, hospitals or supermarkets - they were originally proposed in the early 1800s for transport of heavy freight.
The technology is still used on a smaller scale. While its use for communicating information has been completely superseded by electronic systems, pneumatic tubes are still widely used for transporting small objects in healthcare, such as medical supplies, equipment, lab work and medications/drugs, or where convenience and speed in a local environment is useful.
In the United States, a large number of drive-up banks use pneumatic tubes to transport cash and documents between cars and tellers. Most hospitals have a computer-controlled pneumatic tube system to deliver drugs, documents and specimens to and from laboratories, pharmacy and nurses' stations. Many retail pharmacies use pneumatic airtubes to deliver convenient service (drive throughs) to patients who have difficulty picking up their prescriptions. Many factories use them to deliver parts quickly across large campuses. Many larger stores use systems to securely transport excess cash from checkout stands to back offices, and to send change back to cashiers.
Modern systems (for smaller, i.e. "normal" tube diameters as used in the transport of small capsules) reach speeds of around 7.5 m (25 ft) per second, though some historical systems already achieved speeds of 10 m (33 ft) per second. Further, modern systems can also be computer-controlled, allowing, among other things, the tracking of any specific capsule. Varying air pressures also allow capsules to brake slowly, removing the jarring arrival that used to characterize earlier systems and make them unsuitable for fragile contents.
