Folic acid is effective in the treatment of anemia, especially macrocytic anemia common in pregnancy.
During pregnancy, folic acid helps prevent neural tube defects and may possibly prevent low birth weights and pre-term delivery.
Folic acid helps with the formation and maturation of red and white blood cells.
