Vitamin E (Tocopherol)


Some common functions:

Vitamin E is important for healthy muscles and skin.
Vitamin E prevents oxidative damage to cells and cell membranes.
Vitamin E helps maintain red blood cell membranes.

Additional counseling points:
High doses of Vitamin E may enhance the effect of some anticoagulants.  Patients on these medications should consult with their physicians before starting high Vitamin E dose supplements.

Vitamin E is a fat soluble antioxidant vitamin.

Vitamin E is a group of fat soluble compounds with alpha Tocopherol being the most common and potent.

Synthetic Vitamin E is a mixture of  d and l isomers and is expressed on product labeling as dl-alpha Tocopherol.  The natural form of Vitamin E is the the d-alpha Tocopherol isomer.

Vitamin-E requires dietary fat for proper absorption.
