Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences 2011 Pharmacy Preceptor of the Year Award Winners We congratulate the following recipients of this year’s awards: Community Pharmacy Preceptor Douglas Kaufman, Target Pharmacy, Watertown, MA Han Le, Price Chopper Pharmacy, Worcester, MA Institutional Preceptor Hanh Chu, Mt. Auburn Hospital, Cambridge, MA Neil Gilchrist, University of Massachusetts/Memorial Health Care, Worcester, MA MCPHS Faculty Preceptor Tim Hudd, Boston Campus Kim Pesaturo, Worcester/Manchester Campus The Pharmacy Preceptor of the Year Award at MCPHS is presented to six preceptors from all campuses that have made an outstanding contribution to pharmacy experiential learning. One preceptor is selected from each campus in each of the following three categories: Community Pharmacy Practice, Institutional Practice, and a Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences Faculty Member. Each recipient is honored annually at an Awards Ceremony in May, and is acknowledged with a plaque. Throughout the current academic year, students on rotation are expected to complete a site/preceptor evaluation at the conclusion of each rotation and have the opportunity at that time to nominate their preceptor for the award. The votes are then tabulated by the Office of Experiential Education. Students evaluate the preceptor on the following criteria: Preceptor encourages questions and comments; Preceptor is genuinely interested in each student’s progress; Preceptor challenges each student’s academic and experiential skills; Preceptor is a good role model; Preceptor provides periodic feedback throughout the rotation; Preceptor provides a positive learning environment. Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center’s beautiful 480-bed facility has some of the most advanced technology and skilled medical experts in the area. PSJMC is designated as a Primary Stroke Center, our Neuroscience Institute also provides the area’s only 24/7 neurosurgeons, neurologists and neurointerventionalists. PSJMC has been recognized nationally for advanced cardiac care including a world-class open heart program, family-centered obstetrics, a joint pain center and a Level II Trauma Center. PSJMC began the pharmacy practice residency program in 2011. Dr. Wesley Haltom joined the Wingate University School of Pharmacy faculty on January 3, 2011 as the Director of Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experience. Wesley is a 2010 graduate of Wingate University School of Pharmacy. Dr. Holly Anderson joined the Wingate University School of Pharmacy faculty June 1, 2011 as the Regional Director of the Practice Experience Program at the Hendersonville campus. Holly is a 2004 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Pharmacy. Dr. Wesley Haltom Dr. Holly Anderson Ms. Susan Lance Ms. Susan Lance joined the Wingate University School of Pharmacy Hendersonville campus on August 1, 2011 as the Administrative Assistant. Ms. Lance is a native of Hendersonville, NC and a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte with a BA in Business with a marketing emphasis.
