APCI members can expect a “run for the roses” as the co-op’s annual convention moves to the home of the Kentucky Derby! The 2020 APCI Annual Convention and Stockholders’ Meeting will be held in Louisville, Ky., at the historic Galt House Hotel on the Louisville riverfront from March 5-8.

The theme for this year’s convention is the “APCI Winner’s Circle.”

“Obviously, we’re tying into the longstanding tradition of thoroughbred racing in Kentucky with our ‘Winner’s Circle’ theme.” said APCI CEO Tim Hamrick, “But we also want our members to realize that as long as we continue to work together to face the challenges of modern pharmacy that all of us -- community pharmacies, patients, and your co-op -- can be winners.”

At the convention, attendees will be able to learn about the wide variety of services offered by APCI, as well as network with their pharmacy peers. Attendees will also be able to participate in the annual stockholders’ meeting where opinions, criticisms, and suggestions are welcome. APCI members will also elect three members to the board of directors during the stockholders’ meeting.

The centerpiece of the convention is the wide variety of continuing education sessions provided to APCI members. The sessions will center around issues that are important to independent pharmacies, such as management, financial health, and industry-related concerns, presented by some of the most well-respected thought leaders in the independent pharmacy community. Full-day schedules of CE classes are slated for Friday and Saturday, with morning sessions set for Sunday. All sessions are certified for both pharmacist and pharmacy technician CE credit.

Some of the classes being offered include “Embracing Change in Community Pharmacy – The Impact of Performance Metrics on Pharmacy Reimbursement,” “Immunizations – #1 Clinical Service That Independent Pharmacy Should Offer,” and “Understanding U.S. Medication Pricing and Utilization Distortions.” Additionally, the convention will host a panel discussion on Saturday with elected officials from states where PBM regulation has either been enacted or is currently being considered.

Of course, fun is also on the agenda, with a Friday night event at Churchill Downs featuring a showing of “The Greatest Race” with opportunities to mix and mingle with key vendors while sampling the traditional Mint Julep and enjoying award-winning food. Entertainment will be provided by Louisville pop trio Electria.

A number of leading APCI preferred vendors will also be in attendance with tables available on both Friday and Saturday, with a member reception scheduled for Saturday evening. For more information and to register, visit convention.apcinet.com.
