Meet the Faculty: Emily Hajjar, Professor, Jefferson College of Pharmacy


Meet Emily! Emily Hajjar, Pharm.D., is a Professor in the Jefferson College of Pharmacy at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Dr. Hajjar earned her Pharm.D. at Duquesne University and then completed a pharmacy practice residency at the University of Rochester Medical Center in Rochester, New York.  She then completed a geriatric pharmacy specialty residency at the Minneapolis Veteran’s Affairs Medical Center, followed by a geriatric pharmacotherapy-epidemiology fellowship at the University of Minnesota, College of Pharmacy. 


Emily currently serves as the program director for the Jefferson College of Pharmacy Population Health Pharmacy program.  She also provides clinical services to the Jefferson Center for Healthy Aging, as well as to the Kimmel Cancer Center Senior Adult Oncology and Outpatient Supportive Medicine clinics where she serves as a clinical preceptor for pharmacy students.  As a clinician some of her roles include:


• Providing chronic disease state management and comprehensive medication management

• Working with patients to improve medication adherence

• Participating in quality improvement projects aimed to optimize medication-related outcomes

• Educating students about ambulatory care and population health pharmacy


Emily has published a variety of peer-reviewed publications and textbook chapters on topics of polypharmacy in elderly patients and geriatric pharmacotherapy issues.  Her current research interest includes medical cannabis.  She is thrilled to be working with learners in both the PharmD and Population Health Pharmacy programs.  Emily will teach the Evidence-Based Medicine and Care Pathway Development course and facilitate the capstone courses.
