Karen Hewey

IPPE Institutional Preceptor of the Year!

Karen Hewey ’02, is a full-time staff pharmacist and site contact for Rockville General Hospital in Rockville, Connecticut. “The number one reason I love my job is because no matter how long you have been practicing, there is still opportunity to learn something new every day.”

Hewey is just as passionate about teaching. She tries to impart the wisdom she’s learned both through her career and her practice experiences. She recalled that observing how her preceptors interacted with other health care providers and how difficulty situations were handles were helpful guides to developing professional etiquette. “I think this is as important as gaining clinical knowledge.”
