New RxTransfer function in Inovalon’s ScriptMed replaces fax-and-phone transfer workflows with electronic prescription transfers and status visibility
BOWIE, Md. – September 3, 2026 – Inovalon, a leading provider of data and solutions empowering data-driven healthcare, today announced that its ScriptMed® pharmacy management solution has achieved Surescripts® certification for RxTransfer, a new transaction as part of the National Council for Prescription Drug Programs (NCPDP) standard. The certification enables ScriptMed to support bi-directional electronic prescription transfers for its pharmacy customers.

Moving a specialty prescription from one pharmacy to another has often meant faxing the script, calling the receiving location, and waiting for the prescriber to reauthorize. ScriptMed’s RxTransfer capability can now work in both directions, letting a pharmacy request a prescription from another location or push one directly to the pharmacy that can dispense it, with status tracking from pending through completion in place of a fax and a call log.

Becoming certified for Surescripts RxTransfer means a simplified process within the ScriptMed workflow, helping specialty, infusion, hub, and non-dispensing organizations coordinate transfers with fewer manual touchpoints while providing greater visibility from request through completion. With RxTransfer, a pharmacy processing hundreds of transfers a day can potentially save hours of staff time otherwise spent on faxes and callbacks, while also removing the burden on prescribers.
