10:30-11:30 a.m. Workshop Sessions #3 10:30-11:30 a.m. 10:30-11:30 a.m. ACA – Effective Leadership Through Communication Caribbean Salon V 0201-9999-14-017-L04-P/T This session will be a balance of theory and concepts, and practical application, which can lead to behavioral changes. First, we will discuss what it means to take a communication-centric approach to leadership, as opposed to the common trait-based approaches. Building on this foundation, participants will be introduced to various concepts (e.g., framing, storytelling, emotional intelligence) that can help them in leading others. Finally, participants will be given the opportunity to practice newly-introduced skills through scripting and role-playing. At the conclusion of this educational session, the pharmacist and technician attendee will be able to: • Identify and explain a communication-based perspective on leadership. • Discuss various behaviors associated with communication-based leadership. • Implement leadership strategies and tactics to engage staff and improve pharmacy operations. • Connect leadership strategies to various outcomes in the pharmacy (e.g., improved communication, teamwork, stress reduction). Caribbean Salons VI, VII, VIII 0201-9999-14-018-L04-P/T Increase awareness of new oversight activities and requirements of state boards of pharmacy that should improve compliance with laws, regulations, and standards. Learn how to also use IACP’s StateSide legislative tracking spreadsheet to stay current on what’s happening nationally. At the conclusion of this educational session, the pharmacist and technician attendee will be able to: • Identify gaps in regulatory oversight of sterile compounding highlighted by the NECC tragedy. • Describe activities of Boards of Pharmacy to address gaps. • Describe focus of state legislative activities to improve oversight of sterile compounding. Juran, RPh, Virginia Board of Pharmacy; Robert Marshall, PharmD, Vital Care Pharmacy of Norfolk, Member, Nebraska Board of Pharmacy; Elizabeth “Scotti” Russell, RPh, National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP) Program Type: Knowledge-Based ACVP – “Less Bark, More Bite.” Business Opportunities with Your Local Veterinarian Caribbean Salons I & II 0201-9999-14-019-L04-P/T This presentation focuses on facts indicating the average American spends hundreds of dollars on their dogs, cats, birds and horses. By identifying that responsibility and love for pets the pharmacist, technicians and marketers then need to understand how to speak to the Veterinarians that are at the forefront of care. By developing a relationship with local veterinarians in and around your community by showing them that you are there to increase their business. We will also discuss the triad of patient, pharmacist, and physician and tactful ways to discuss veterinary compound resale laws and two very unique vehicles that have the potential to impress your docs and improve your veterinary prescriptions. At the conclusion of this educational session, the pharmacist and technician attendee will be able to: • Recognize the value of veterinary compounding for business and patient relationships. • Identify local veterinary market needs. • Discuss veterinary compounding options with clinical references.
