9:15-10:15 a.m. Workshop Sessions #2 ACA – Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement Therapy – What’s Most Effective? Caribbean Salon V 0201-9999-14-014-L01-P/T The current medical literature will be evaluated in this presentation with the intention to challenge current BHRT best practices. Research from pharmacokinetic and therapeutic outcomes trials will be discussed and assessed to provide an evidence based approach to treating menopausal women with BHRT. At the conclusion of this educational session, the pharmacist and technician attendee will be able to: • Recount the history of hormone replacement therapy with regard to menopause. • Briefly review the safety of Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement Therapy with regard to cardiovascular disease and breast cancer. • List three approaches to alleviate menopausal symptoms and limit adverse effects. • Given a patient case, apply current literature and describe an appropriate BHRT regimen. Visually display risks of different courses of conduct through multimedia relating to pharmacy marketing. Analyze effects through common scenarios and case studies. Provide pointers and tips on how to bring pharmacy practice to compliance. At the conclusion of this educational session, the pharmacist and technician attendee will be able to: • Discuss different methods of employing a sales force and marketing campaign. • Identify and be aware of Federal and State laws regulations governing use, conduct and compensation of sales representatives. • Identify and be knowledgeable about Federal and State law relating to permissible marketing materials. • Describe compliance with Federal and State Laws. Levitt, Esq., Frier Levitt LLC Program Type: Knowledge-Based ACVP – Overview of NSAIDS and Antimicrobials in Diseased Horses Caribbean Salons I & II 0201-9999-14-016-L01-P/T NSAIDS are used frequently in horses and this program will discuss some of the best options to use, particularly in diseased horses. This program will also discuss an overview of the approved and extra-label NSAIDS that are effective in treating horse diseases such as colic, osteoarthritis, laminitis and joint disease. At the conclusion of this educational session, the pharmacist and technician attendee will be able to: • Review common NSAIDS and Antimicrobials prescribed in diseased horses. • Identify clinical skills for consulting with veterinarians on human extra-label use of antibiotics and NSAIDS in horses. • Review restrictions of drug therapy in race or show horses to ensure legal dispensing of medications. • Recognize the need to be aware of horses intended for food in the US and Europe.
