Frank Iannarone III WINTER 2014 I HEALTH SYSTEM • INFUSION 27 Joe Talarico 2013-2014 IPPE Preceptor of the Year Wingate University School of Pharmacy is proud to recognize Joe Talarico as our student selected 2013-2014 IPPE Preceptor of the Year. Mr. Talarico serves as a staff pharmacist at Stanly Regional Medical Center in Albemarle, NC, and has served as a dedicated WUSOP preceptor since the school’s inception in 2003, regularly taking 8 P2 students annually in addition to his P4 student commitments. Students greatly appreciate the time and attention that Mr. Talarico gives to his rotation. Among the positive feedback from students were these Joe Talarico RPh kind words: “ Joe was an excellent source of knowledge and experience. He made every effort to make sure we got to experience as many different things as we could, which I believe is the heart of doing these rotations. He was awarded the 2013 Ernest Mario School Preceptor of the Year Award at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey’s, commencement ceremony in New Brunswick, NJ. As Preceptor of the Year, Mr. Iannarone was selected from hundreds of pharmacy preceptors and acknowledged by the school for his dedication to developing and mentoring pharmacy students at his independently owned Madison Pharmacy. Having graduated from the School of Pharmacy at Rutgers University, Mr. Iannarone has seen the value of practice experience and has continued to be a tremendous advocate of student development through community outreach programs and one-on-one interactions with his patients. During the four or five week rotation segments, students are given opportunities to apply information learned in school and gain hands-on experience through patient interactions and prescription processing. Students have created and delivered a variety of programs over the year covering specific disease states such as diabetes and high blood pressure to more general programs on medication disposal and Medicare prescription program information. In addition to training students at his pharmacy and in the community, Mr. Iannarone has also supported student learning during student organization meetings at the school by providing his insights on the value of owning a pharmacy. Based on his commitment to the students of Rutgers University and excellence in the profession of pharmacy, Mr. Iannarone was awarded the prestigious designation of Preceptor of the Year for 2013. Internal Preceptor of The Year Elected by the Class of 2014 Dr. Michael McGuire was presented the 2014 award for Internal Preceptor of the Year. This award was given to a professor who has invested a great amount of time and effort towards the learning and development of students. Dr. McGuire dedicates his time to Belmont students at his practice site, truly loves his job, and is devoted to teaching, both in and out of the classroom. External Preceptor of the Year Elected by the Class of 2014 Dr. Timothy Morgan was awarded the 2014 External Preceptor of the Year. This award was presented to Dr. Morgan for his exemplary service to our students and passion for patient care. He strives to challenge Belmont students to become excellent practitioners. Pharm, R.Ph. This student nominated award honors a distinguished preceptor who has made a positive impact on students through their exemplary teaching and mentoring. The recipient will receive a personalized plaque and their name placed on a perpetual plaque in the Experiential Office. Joey is a pharmacy manager at Walgreens in Findlay, Ohio. 2013-14 Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience Preceptor of the Year Timothy Burkart Pharm.D. This student nominated award honors a distinguished preceptor who has made a positive impact on students through their exemplary teaching and mentoring. The recipient will receive a personalized plaque and their name placed on a perpetual plaque in the Experiential Office. Timothy is a clinical pharmacist with Blanchard Valley Hospital in Findlay, Ohio.
