Section 5.3.2 of the USP <800> states “a laminar airflow workbench (LAFW) or compounding aseptic isolator (CAI) must not be used for the compounding of an antineoplastic HD. A BSC or CACI used for the preparation of HDs must not be used for the preparation of a non-HD unless the non-HD preparation is placed into a protective outer wrapper during removal from the C-PEC and is labeled to require PPE handling precautions.”

To help pharmacies and infusion centers comply with this requirement, EPS developed a specially designed REQUIRES PPE PRECAUTIONS label. With a striking black and yellow image, this 1.5” square label provides clear notification that PPE is required when handling this preparation. The plastic dispensing box and the aggressive, IV/blood product safe adhesive were carefully chosen to accommodate the requirements of the environment where this label will be used.
“The safe handling of HDs has become ever more important in daily pharmacy practice. Strict attention to guidelines like USP <800> is essential,” notes Bob Braverman, President of Medi-Dose/EPS. “Our REQUIRES PPE PRECATIONS label is one more way in which we are here to help pharmacists easily and economically comply with these crucial procedures.”
