The rule is now in full effect — and for the first time in the agency”s history, EMS agencies are formally recognized as their own class of DEA registrant.
For the thousands of fire-based, third-service, private ambulance, and air medical operations that have historically operated under a hospital”s or medical director”s registration, this is the most significant regulatory change to controlled substance handling in pre-hospital medicine in a generation.
