Transporting Multi-Dose Vaccine Vials

For those on the front lines of vaccine distribution and administration, safe handling and storage is always top of mind. This became even more critical, however, for maintaining the efficacy of critical COVID-19 vaccines in an effort to slow and ultimately stop the spread of the virus. To help, USP recently published an update to vaccine handling based specifically on CDC guidelines. I wanted to share our latest post, which gives you a brief summary of the USP COVID-19 Vaccine Handling Toolkit and a few quick takeaways relative to temperature updates and transport container recommendations.

The updates were particularly interesting to MaxQ since the pandemic and the race for a vaccine made us realize our cooler systems – originally designed to store and transport blood products – could also benefit vaccine distribution. That’s why we quickly got to work gathering input from state health agencies, hospitals, pharmacies and clinics to design a purpose-built cooler system specific for vaccines, following the specifications from the CDC. I’m happy to report that these cooler systems meet all the guidelines mapped out in the USP COVID-19 Vaccine Handling Toolkit.

As we all do our part to increase the vaccinated population and mitigate the impact of this pandemic, we hope you find this overview helpful. If you have any questions about the guidelines or about the MaxQ cooler systems – please feel free to get in touch.
