Retail/community pharmacies often deliver medications to a patient’s home as a service, while long term care pharmacies deliver medications to the care facility such as nursing homes. Specialty pharmacies ship medications that may require special handling.

Multiple courier services, delivery solutions, and technology vendors have entered the market to support these pharmacy delivery needs. The “last-mile” delivery typically involves the delivery of very sensitive or expensive drugs from the final transportation hub, such such as an airport or UPS terminal, to the end user or hospital.

Who are the Pharmacy500 and what are the selection criteria?

The Pharmacy500 includes:

Companies within the Pharmacy Supply Chain
National Pharmacy Trade Associations

The Pharmacy500 Selection Committee applies the following criteria to determine the list of 500:

Offers and actively markets at least one product or service to dispensing pharmacies
Dispensing pharmacies comprise at least 25% of their customer base
Has an estimated annual revenue exceeding $500,000
Has five or more full-time employees, and has been in business for more than two years
Has a national presence
Exhibited at one of the following national conferences in the previous year: APhA; ASCP Annual Meeting & Exhibition; Asembia’s Summit; ASHP Midyear Clinical Meetings & Exhibition; Cardinal Health RBC; McKesson ideaShare; NACDS Total Store Expo; NASP Annual Meeting & Expo; NCPA Annual Convention and Expo; Pharmacy Futures (ASHP Summer); ThoughtSpot.

The following supply chain segments are critical to pharmacy operations and patient care, but are excluded from the Pharmacy500 simply due to volume:
