Journal clubs have long been used to teach critical evaluation of the literature, keep practitioners up-to-date, and improve clinical practice. However, journal clubs can suffer from a lack of focus and poorly defined goals, failure to discuss the clinical application of the articles, and lengthy presentations and discussions. While journal clubs are often a required activity, it can be difficult to make a journal club presentation meaningful if only one student and preceptor are at a rotation site. This course provides tips on how to make journal clubs more meaningful in any setting, from defining goals to selecting impactful articles to applying adult learning principles.
