Episode 21 – Simplifying the Complexities of Medical Benefit Billing – With the scope of accountabilities and service offerings expanding in recent years, pharmacists are taking on more medical responsibilities beyond their traditional roles. Because of these increased accountabilities, medical billing is now more critical than ever.

Aimee O’Reilly, pharmacist and owner of O’Reilly Family Pharmacy in Worthington, Ohio, discusses her journey into the pharmacy profession, as well as into the future of pharmacy, through Cardinal Health’s™ Medical Benefit Billing.

Here, Aimee speaks to the benefits of using the Medical Benefit Billing program, which enables a pharmacy to bill and track their medical benefits claims in real time. It also lends itself to improved patient care and adds clinical revenue with an innovative, forward-looking solution. In addition, Aimee discusses the distinction between medical billing and pharmacy billing and why it’s important to understand the difference.

About the Guests

Aimee O’Reilly – O’Reilly Family Pharmacy

Aimee O’Reilly received her doctorate in pharmacy from Ohio Northern University in 2012 and began her career in independent pharmacy working in two independent pharmacies and part-time for the Ohio Pharmacists Association. There, her primary responsibilities were to help make independent pharmacies more profitable, create marketing materials, and coordinate continuing education classes. As her confidence increased and she grew into her role as a pharmacist, Aimee realized she was well-equipped to operate her own pharmacy. She opened O’Reilly Family Pharmacy, offering services such as medication packaging and synchronization, medication therapy management, immunizations, delivery, durable medical equipment (DME), compression hose fitting and personal consultations. Over time, she expanded these services outside of the walls of her pharmacy, serving patients in assisted living facilities and providing medication packaging services to patients recovering at home.   Her favorite part about being a pharmacist is helping patients understand their medications.
