DSCSA 2023 Compliance for Independent Pharmacies: The Need-to-Know Essentials

The final phase of the U.S. Drug Supply Chain Security Act (DSCSA) requires all dispensers to be able to exchange compliance data in an interoperable, secure, electronic manner. This means that by November 27, 2023, independent pharmacies must have capabilities in place to:

  • – Integrate with all prescription drug suppliers, including those that send drop shipments.
  • – Receive serialized compliance data in the EPCIS format for all drugs prior to dispensing.
  • – Verify product serial numbers as part of suspect or illegitimate product investigations.
  • – Execute a product tracing process to compile information for product investigations.
  • – Store serialized compliance data for all prescription drugs received for at least six years.

However, due to the complexity of the compliance requirements and the difficulty of implementing these new capabilities, many independent pharmacies have been slow to act. As a result, they may be at risk of noncompliance—even with the recently announced 12-month DSCSA stabilization period, the law will still go into effect on November 27.

With the deadline looming, TraceLink can help you comply with DSCSA ahead of time and improve your pharmacy operations. Download this brief to learn how TraceLink fits seamlessly into your workflow with a turnkey compliance solution supported by a dedicated services team.
