The 14 year-old CYPERBARA with a respiratory infection 

A local compounding pharmacy used the high-capacity 2mL x 30-count silicone mold from TICKERWORKS to prepare a 750 mg Sulfamethoxazole-Trimethoprim troche-tab for a rescue sanctuary. (Note: this troche tablet is intended to be swallowed.)

The pharmacist-in-charge initially attempted a 2.2g blue rubber mold, assuming the larger volume would help. It failed—tablets broke apart during removal, and the mold was damaged beyond use.

Thankfully, the newly acquired TICKERWORKS mold was available. After calibrating each cavity weight with the selected base, the reformulated troches came out uniform, intact, and easy to demold—highlighting the benefits of the improved design.

The pharmacy calculated the proper amount of drug per tablet, triturated the actives, and blended them with an inert molten PEG base from a compounding wholesaler. Apple flavor was added and mixed in a centrifugal mixer. The tablets were firm, released easily from the mold, and packaged in a standard RX vial.

Rita the Capybara, recovering from a respiratory infection, enjoys a diet of grasses, aquatic plants, and the occasional melon or apple. Native to South America’s wetlands, she weighs ~50 Kg. Fatty acid bases upset her digestion, so the meds should avoid fats. Apple flavoring works well, especially when wrapped in lettuce like a taco.
