Pain Management Specialty Pharmacist: Module 1 – Pain Management in the Opioid Crisis

This session is part of the Pain Management Specialty Pharmacist series. It explores the effective management of pain within the context of the current opioid crisis. This session examines the concept of addiction and explores the correlation between the rate of overdose deaths and the rate of prescribing of opioid medications. In addition, the introduction of abuse-deterrent formulations is explored as a method of reducing prescription drug abuse. Morphine milligram equivalent dosing is discussed within the context of the CDC’s chronic pain guidelines.
