Ashley Garling 2015 APPE Preceptor of the Year

Wingate University School of Pharmacy is proud to recognize Dr. Ashley Garling as our student selected 2015 APPE Preceptor of the Year. Dr. Garling serves as the pharmacist manager at Ingles Pharmacy in Lincolnton, NC. She has formally precepted for WUSOP since 2014, but she was also involved with Wingate students in a previous position for several years. Dr. Garling is highly regarded for her level of clinical practice in community pharmacy and her encouragement to student pharmacists to go above and beyond in providing optimal care for patients and finding fulfillment in their career. When describing her rotation experience with Dr. Garling, one student recently wrote these kind words:

“ Dr. Garling has made me realize that community pharmacy is what you make of it. Once she realized I had already covered the topics she was going to have me do presentations over, she completely adjusted her rotation schedule/plans. She asked about my future rotations and decided that it would be most beneficial to cover topics that will help me prepare for them. Not only am I learning from a preceptor that goes above and beyond to make sure the needs of her patients are met, she is also making sure the needs of her students are met as well. There is not a day that goes by without her asking me if I have learned something today. I can see joy in her smile as I am able to explain to her what I have learned and how it will help me in the future.”
