Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT), is a simple, effective, and low cost public health approach to increase patient awareness of the health risks associated with alcohol, and illicit and prescription drug misuse. The SBIRT system identifies at-risk patients and uses motivational interviewing strategies to support patient efforts to develop healthier behaviors. This course discusses the value of using SBIRT in the pharmacy and equips pharmacists in utilizing the approach with patients.
