Safety in a Seal

Compound pharmacists turn to sterile, tamper-evident port seals when compounding drugs as part of their in-hospital pharmacy protocol. The reason is to verify that the pharmacy has fully processed the drug containers delivering the medicine to the patient.

SecureSeal® IV Seals from Winfield Laboratories is the product that aids in the safe and efficient management of USP <797> sterile drug compounding – including being a critical added precaution against inadvertent double dosing of an IV bag.

The designers took safety a step further by applying different colors on the port seals to identify different types of drugs that require special handling or management. For example, pharmacists can place red seals on all narcotics and yellow seals on all chemotherapy drugs that leave the pharmacy for patient care areas.

Moreover, these color seals also help in the management of pharmacy inventory. A different color sterile, tamper-evident port seal can designate the day of the week when the pharmacist compounded the drug.
