In this episode of the Framework Focus Podcast, Mark Fulton is joined by Paul Shelton, President of PharmaComplete Consulting Services and CEO of LTC@Home Pharmacy Network. Shelton shares his unique career journey, leading to an exploration of LTC pharmacy.
Shelton served in the United States Army National Guard as a Marksmanship Instructor for nearly a decade. In 2008, he began working at Parata Systems where he served in various roles over eight years. He then worked as a Senior Leader for McKesson for three years before launching PharmaComplete in 2019.
”I realized there wasn’t really an independent voice for Long-Term Care Pharmacy in the market,” Shelton noted. “When we talked with partner pharmacies who had consulting, the solutions looked very much like whoever that partner organization was.”
In this important conversation, Mark and Paul delve into the motivations driving independent pharmacies to enter the LTC space, discussing how to get started, market identification, staffing and equipment requirements, and service delivery to LTC facilities.
“We do operations assessment for LTC pharmacies. Think bar rescue, kitchen nightmares, but pharmacy edition, without the throwing of pots and pans,” Shelton said. “We come in and help independent pharmacies take a deep look at how they’re operating… and how they may need to adjust their store or expand their services.”
Later in the episode, Paul highlights the unique challenges faced in LTC pharmacy and the opportunities it offers, along with advice for both newcomers and those already involved in LTC.
