New PQ Testing Requirements

New PQ Testing Requirements

At the end of 2019, URAC implemented their updated standard for Specialty Pharmacies to v4.0. One standard in particular – P-OPS 8: Distribution – expands the scope of the Performance Qualification (PQ) Test required for accreditation.

The URAC v 4.0 PQ testing requirements became more robust in two ways:

1. Adding frozen and room temperature products to the refrigerated products previously included.

2. Increasing the frequency to at least twice a year to accommodate different temperature profiles.

For specialty pharmacies like AON Pharmacy who may be looking to renew URAC accreditation in the future, it will just be a matter of making some adjustments to existing PQ testing processes. Others seeking accreditation for the first time can opt to conduct their own PQ testing or use the services of a third-party provider, like EDGE PQ Performance Qualification Testing from Temptime.

You can learn more about URAC 4.0 P-OPS 8: Distribution in our most recent VUEPoint as well as what others in the industry are doing for PQ testing.
