GOAL
To educate pharmacists on management of influenza symptoms with over-the-counter (OTC) agents, including a review of which patients are inappropriate for self-treatment, commonly used combination products and their components, and key counseling points.
EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this program, participants should be better able to:
1. Describe measures that can be taken to prevent influenza.
2. List common influenza symptoms and potential complications.
3. Discuss comorbid conditions and additional factors that would place a patient at high risk for complications from influenza.
4. Describe the individual components of commonly used OTC combination products for treatment of influenza symptoms.
5. Summarize key counseling points for patients wishing to self-treat influenza symptoms with OTC products.
