This accredited activity has been designed for pharmacists.
The goal of this educational activity is to increase pharmacist knowledge regarding common comorbidities of diabetes and diabetes-related complications. Participants will be more familiar with the importance of identifying comorbidities and how they can affect diabetes care. Pharmacists will be more familiar with making treatment selections based on factors such as cardiovascular disease, heart failure, and kidney disease. After participation in this activity, pharmacists will understand how they can participate in care by helping to meet recommended screening needs.
Upon completion of this program, participants should be better able to:
1. Identify comorbidities that are more common in patients with diabetes.
2. Explain the impact that diabetes comorbidities and their treatment can have on glycemic control and how to prioritize care.
3. Explore the relationship between key comorbidities such as ASCVD, heart failure, and chronic kidney disease, and how they relate to treatment selection in patients with type 2 diabetes.
4. Discuss comprehensive medical examinations for patients with diabetes and how pharmacists can help address screening needs in this population.
