The opioid epidemic has prompted a re-evaluation of when opioids are necessary and the risk/benefit ratio of their use in the treatment of acute pain. This application-based continuing pharmacy education course provides a 'journal club format' discussion for pharmacists and student pharmacists to evaluate a randomized trial comparing opioid and nonopioid strategies in the management of acute extremity pain in the emergency department.
