SPRING HOUSE, PA – 2019 marks 25 years since nurse entrepreneur Sandra C. Canally, RN formed The Compliance Team, Inc. (TCT), the nation’s only certified woman-owned healthcare accreditation organization (AO) to be authorized to accredit Medicare Part A and Part B providers.
The Compliance Team is the first national AO to employ a paradigm-shifting accreditation process that is highlighted by the firm’s plain language Safety-Honesty-Caring® Quality Standards and Evidence of Compliance; each of which can be applied to a provider’s unique day-to-day business practices and point-of-contact patient care operations. The Compliance Team is the first national AO to host and maintain a patient satisfaction reporting and benchmarking web portal and include it as a value-added feature of each program. The firm is also the only AO to confer Medicare-approved Exemplary Provider® accredited status.
Canally’s focus from the outset has been to transform healthcare accreditation through the simplification of what had become an overly complex, burdensome, and costly process into a more reliable, consumer-friendly, indicator of patient care quality.
“Simplification leads to clarity and clarity allows the provider to focus on improving their everyday services to their patients and their own bottom lines,” Canally explains.
After four years of development and beta testing in provider settings, the firm formally launched its Exemplary Provider® accreditation program for DMEPOS (Durable Medical Equipment Prosthetics, Orthotics, and Supplies) in 1998. Regional and national managed care recognition soon followed starting with the approval of North Carolina Blue Cross/ Blue Shield in March 1999.
Following the 2003 passage of the Medicare Modernization Act, the Secretary of Health and Human Services granted The Compliance Team deeming authority to accredit Medicare Part-B DMEPOS providers in 2006. In 2014, the firm received the Secretary’s authority to accredit Medicare Part-A Rural Health Clinics. In addition, The Compliance Team is federally approved to accredit practitioners who seek Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) status.
The Compliance Team today offers 17 industry-leading, operations-based accreditation programs for clinics, PCMH, pharmacy services, DMEPOS and private duty. Each year, the firm accredits thousands of providers based in all 50 states, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands. The Compliance Team plans to introduce new transformative accreditation programs later this year. For more information, visit www.thecomplianceteam.org or call 215-654-9110.
